Cambodia & Korea Sign Contract to Fast-Track USD 235m Areyaksat Bridge Construction by Mid-2025

Cambodia and Korea have sealed a comprehensive contract to expedite the construction of the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge, with work slated to begin by the end of the first half of 2025. The agreement is expected to accelerate the project’s timeline, enhancing the relationship between the two nations. The total investment for the 2,375-metre cable-stayed bridge stands at USD 235 million, funded by the Export-Import Bank of Korea.

During the signing ceremony on 25 September 2024, HE So Victor, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, joined representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Yooshin Engineering Corporation to formalize the collaboration.

This technical contract will cover detailed design studies, procurement processes, and the selection of a construction firm, ensuring that the construction of the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge progresses smoothly and efficiently.

Spanning 2,375 metres with a width of 27.5 metres, the bridge is set to connect Night Market to Chroy Changvar and Chroy Changvar to Areyaksat. This critical infrastructure, valued at USD 235 million, will strengthen the transport links between these areas, fostering further economic growth and trade opportunities. (Read more)

In a previous high-level meeting on 11 September 2024, Yoon Suk-Yeol, President of the Republic of Korea, assured Cambodia that the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge will be officially inaugurated in 2025, signifying a milestone in the ongoing diplomatic and economic partnership between the two countries. The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace in Korea with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, solidifying bilateral ties further.
