Cambodia Inaugurates Modern Naval Base & Training Centre in Sihanoukville

Cambodia officially inaugurated the Ream Naval Base and the Cambodia-China Joint Logistics and Training Centre, which significantly boosted its maritime capabilities. The ceremony was presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen, marking a notable advancement in the nation’s naval infrastructure.

Developed with assistance from China, the Ream Naval Base features a newly constructed drydock, slipway, pier, and various buildings, enhancing both existing facilities and operational capacity. Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasised that this modernisation is vital for strengthening the Cambodian military’s ability to manage maritime situations effectively. He stated, “These advancements will empower us to prevent, protect, and respond to incidents in a timely manner. Furthermore, it opens the door for greater maritime security cooperation with our international partners and within the region.” (Read more)

In a move to promote regional stability, the Prime Minister invited friendly nations to utilise the Ream Navy Base for training exercises, asserting that Cambodia has no intentions of allowing any foreign country to establish an exclusive military base on its territory.

Notably, Japan’s vessels are set to be the first to arrive at the newly completed Ream Port, heralding a new era of international maritime collaboration for Cambodia. (Read more)
