Cambodia Unveils National Customs School as the Newest Asia-Pacific Training Hub

Cambodia has officially launched its National Customs School as the 11th Asia-Pacific Training Center of the World Customs Organization (WCO), marking a major milestone in the country’s role in international customs training and cooperation.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by HE Dr Aun Porn Moniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, with distinguished guests from both national and international bodies in attendance.

The prestigious designation was granted at the 143/144 Customs Cooperation Council Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, in June 2024, where a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise and the WCO. The National Customs School, housed in a 12-storey building in Phnom Penh, spans 20,225 square metres and was built at a cost of USD 14 million.

Dr. Aun emphasized that the school’s recognition as a WCO regional training centre would significantly enhance human capital development and foster knowledge exchange for customs officials across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The centre is set to host key training activities and events to bolster capacity-building efforts, with Ricardo Treviño, Deputy Secretary-General of the WCO, expressing his high expectations for the centre’s impact.

The National Customs School was originally inaugurated in December 2021 under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister of Cambodia. With its 49-metre length and 48-metre width, over a total area of 20.225 square metres, the school is poised to become a critical hub for customs training, positioning Cambodia as a leader in the Asia-Pacific region’s customs development and education efforts. (Read more)
