The Cambodian government has asked the Australian government to provide more funds for electricity and water supply projects in Cambodia, according to the results of a meeting between the two sides on 03 April 2019.

According to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), the meeting between H.E Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Mr Luke Arnold, Deputy Head of Mission of the Australian Embassy in Cambodia, both parties “agreed in principle to propose to the Australian Government for an 18-month extension with an additional budget of up to AUD4 million to allow the Investing in Infrastructure-3i (2015-2020) program to be implemented until 2021.

The Australian Government has provided approximately US$45 million in grants to Cambodia for five years from 2015-2020 for the implementation of the 3i program. Upon completion of the project, about 1 million people will have access to clean water and about 150,000 people will have access to electricity.

So far, the 3i project has supported 80 private operators, including 61 pipe water supply operators and 19 electricity operators, and in 2019, the project will help 16 more operators to supply clean water, allowing more than 69,322 families be able to access to clean water.
