Cambodia Signs Three Major Development Contracts With Chinese Government

China to help renovate ancient architectures, infrastructures, and schools in Cambodia

The Republic of China has recently inked several deals with the government of Cambodia to help renovate ancient architecture in Siem Reap province, build a logistic master plan for Cambodia and construct 26 schools nationwide.

The agreement signing ceremony was done between the Cambodian Minister of Economy and Finance H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth and Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Yan on 19 June during her official visit to Cambodia.

According to the press release from the Ministry, three agreements were signed including, 1) USD2.5 million in Grant Aid from China for implementing a demining and unexploded ordnance project, 2) an agreement to help build a master plan for a transport system in Cambodia including land, rail, water, civil aviation and logistics, and 3) an agreement to help renovate Angkor palace as well as other ancient architecture in Siem Reap province.

Besides the three main agreements, the Chinese government has also agreed to provide funds for a schools improvement project. The project includes building 26 high school buildings and three teacher training centres in Phnom Penh, Kampong Cham, and Kandal provinces.

From July 2001 to 19 June 2018, the government of China has provide a total of USD 5,276 million in financial aid to Cambodia of which USD 1,221 million is grant aid and zero-interest loans.
