Cambodia Welcomes New Investments: Plastics and Cassava Processing Factories to Boost Local Economies

Exciting developments are on the horizon for Cambodia as two major investment projects are set to launch in Svay Rieng and Kampong Thom provinces, promising significant contributions to the local economy.

In Svay Rieng, a new plastics factory is being established with an investment of USD 6 million in the Forson Giga special economic zone. This state-of-the-art facility will manufacture a variety of plastic products, including bags, toys, tents, and water boards. The project is expected to create around 530 job opportunities, providing a vital boost to employment in the region.

Meanwhile, Kampong Thom province is making strides toward establishing a cassava processing factory. The provincial administration aims to develop a facility capable of efficiently processing cassava harvested from an expansive area of approximately 50,000 hectares, yielding around 1 million tons annually. This initiative not only supports local farmers but also optimizes the utilization of one of the region’s key agricultural products.

These ventures are part of a broader pattern of economic growth in Cambodia. The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has reported a remarkable increase in investment activity, with 440 projects approved in the first seven months of 2025, totaling an impressive USD 6.7 billion. This figure surpasses the total number of projects approved in all of 2024 and signifies the highest annual total since the CDC’s establishment more than 30 years ago.

As these factories take shape, they are poised to enhance local economies and create new employment opportunities for residents. Stay tuned for further updates on these promising developments that will shape Cambodia’s industrial landscape.
