Cambodia-World Bank is studying the details of toilet mud management in Siem Reap

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), stakeholders, and experts of the World Bank (World Bank) on 01 January 2022 held a joint discussion to study the toilet waste management services in Siem Reap under the Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project (WASSIP).

Mr Chao Sopheak, Project Director and Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Wastewater Treatment System, MPWT, said that the discussion was to present the preliminary results of the study and proposals to improve sanitation services in the city and accept Feedback to make final corrections from key stakeholders.

The Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project (WASSIP) is under a concession financing from the World Bank, studied by GRET, a consultant who is conducting a study on toilet waste management services in Siem Reap and as a support. The second part of the project is to support the Royal Government in developing toilet mud management services.

Through this project, stakeholders will study four main objectives, including:

1. Study the current situation of supply and demand of toilet mud management services in Siem Reap.

2. Update the toilet sludge flow diagram (SFD) and estimate the needs for toilet sludge management services.

3. Develops implementation plan and capacity building for Siem Reap Sewerage and Wastewater Treatment Station (SR-SWTPU) and

4. Overview of the water billing system used by the Siem Reap Water Supply Authority (SRWSA).

Under the cooperation with AIMF, Siem Reap also received and break ground construction site for sludge processing sewers to organic fertilizer worth about 1.7 million Euro in Siem Reap. (Read more)
