Canadian Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities in Cambodia

A significant delegation representing over 80 companies from the ASEAN-Canada Business Council (CABC) has arrived in Cambodia to explore potential investment opportunities. The announcement was made during a meeting between HE Lim Visal, Deputy Secretary-General of the Cambodia Investment Committee, and CABC President Mr. Wayne Farmer at the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

During the meeting, HE Lim Visal expressed his warm welcome to the Canadian delegation, emphasising their interest in understanding Cambodia’s business landscape. He also acknowledged the Canadian government’s support in providing preferential trade treatment to least developed countries, including Cambodia. This support has been instrumental in boosting Cambodia’s exports to Canada, positioning it as the sixth-largest market for Cambodian goods.

“This visit is a vital step towards expanding bilateral trade and enhancing Canadian investment in Cambodia,” stated HE Lim Visal. He highlighted the success stories of Canadian firms already operating in the country, such as the National Bank of Canada, which owns ABA Bank, and the Manulife Insurance Company.

Mr. Wayne Farmer responded positively, noting that the delegation is keenly interested in the various trade and investment opportunities in Cambodia. He praised the achievements of Canadian businesses in the region and reaffirmed the delegation’s commitment to fostering further Canadian investment in the country.

In addition, Mr. Farmer extended an invitation to representatives from the Council for the Development of Cambodia to participate in the Canada-ASEAN Business and Investment Forum scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur in September, as well as the Canada Infrastructure Public-Private Partnership Forum in Toronto later this year.

The upgraded status of Canada’s diplomatic mission in Phnom Penh to a full embassy, which occurred in March 2025, underscores the country’s long-term commitment to Cambodia and the broader Indo-Pacific region.

In 2024, trade between Cambodia and Canada reached an impressive USD 2.4 billion, with Canada ranking fourth in Cambodia’s apparel and textile export market. Canadian exports to Cambodia totalled USD 33.5 million, while imports reached USD 2.3 billion, reflecting a robust trading relationship. Moreover, direct Canadian investment in Cambodia witnessed an increase, reaching USD 2.9 billion.

This delegation visit marks a promising chapter in the continued strengthening of economic ties between Canada and Cambodia, paving the way for a more prosperous future for both nations.
