China & Australia Set to Expand Agriculture Investment in Kampong Thom Province

 

In a promising development for the agricultural sector, Chinese and Australian investors are set to expand their investments in Kampong Thom province, Cambodia. This exciting announcement was made during a pivotal meeting on 27 May 2025, between Mr. Nuon Pharath, Governor of the Kampong Thom Provincial Council, and representatives from both countries.

The first meeting featured Mr. Hu Jun, CEO of Kampu Nuts Agro Product Co., Ltd., a leading player in the cashew nut processing industry. The discussion centred on enhancing the company’s current investments in the Taing Kork district, renowned for its rich agricultural potential. Governor Nuon Pharath highlighted the opportunities within the cashew nut sector and outlined the national cashew nut policy, along with plans for an agro-industrial park dedicated to the processing of cashew nuts.

In a separate but equally significant meeting, Governor Pharath welcomed Mr. Ian Olifent, Chairman of the Board of Directors of a prominent farming development company. This firm has committed to diversifying agricultural crops in Kampong Thom, an initiative that aligns with the province’s broader goals for economic growth and sustainability. The governor celebrated their investment decision, emphasizing Kampong Thom’s vast potential and encouraging future collaboration.

Expressing his support, Governor Pharath assured both companies of his administration’s readiness to facilitate their operations, pledging to provide all necessary administrative documents to ensure a seamless investment process.

With the partnerships between these international investors and local authorities, Kampong Thom is poised for a vibrant agricultural transformation, paving the way for job creation and sustainable economic development in the region. As the province embraces new opportunities, the benefits of this investment wave are anticipated to resonate throughout the community for years to come.
