Chinese Wanli Stone Eyes Investment in SEZ with Ambition to Expand Marble Business in Cambodia

China’s Wanli Stone, currently operating a thriving marble and granite business in Kampong Speu province, is exploring further investment opportunities in Cambodia with plans to develop a special economic zone (SEZ).

This announcement followed a meeting on 8 September 2024 between HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy PM and first Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Mr. Zou Peng, head of the Wanli Stone delegation. The company expressed keen interest in expanding its presence by establishing an SEZ, signalling a new wave of Chinese investments in the country.

The Chinese Business Association of Choshan has also proposed the development of a 32-hectare SEZ in Bati district, Takeo province, aimed at creating job opportunities and driving local economic growth. (Read more)

Meanwhile, Golden Port SEZ Development Co., Ltd has presented a more ambitious plan to set up a 270-hectare SEZ along the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway in Sihanoukville, further enhancing Cambodia’s industrial landscape.  (Read more)

Currently, Cambodia hosts 26 special economic zones, attracting approximately 775 investment projects with a cumulative investment capital of around USD 10 billion. These zones are a major source of employment, providing jobs for nearly 180,000 workers and contributing significantly to the country’s economic expansion.
