BYD to Establish Electric Car Factory in Cambodia, Signalling Major Economic Expansion

China’s leading electric car manufacturer, BYD, is set to invest in a new car plant in Cambodia, as confirmed by Prime Minister Hun Manet during a gathering with SMEs and artisans on 27 June 2024.

PM Hun Manet also mentioned that two additional companies have applied to establish factories in Cambodia, further bolstering the nation’s industrial growth. He emphasised the potential for economic expansion and expressed hope that more international corporations will collaborate with local SMEs to enhance the supply chain of specific components.

This significant development highlights Cambodia’s growing appeal as a manufacturing hub, joining the ranks of global automotive giants such as Ford, Toyota, and Hyundai already operating in the country.

Notably, BYD plans to establish two service centres and install 200 electric vehicle charging stations across Cambodia, underscoring their commitment to supporting the infrastructure needed for a sustainable electric vehicle market. The strategic investments and infrastructure developments are expected to drive significant economic growth and create numerous job opportunities, fostering a robust and dynamic industrial sector.
