Chinese Investor Announces Major Investment in Solar Power Plant in Kampong Speu Province

Kampong Speu – In a groundbreaking development for Cambodia’s renewable energy sector, Dongbaishan Holding Group Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese firm, has unveiled plans to invest approximately USD 500 million in the creation of the province’s first solar power plant. The announcement was made during a meeting on July 7, 2025, between His Excellency Dr. Cheam Chansophorn, Governor of Kampong Speu Province, and Mr. Si Juchen, Chairman of Dongbaishan Holding Group.

Mr. Si emphasized the company’s extensive experience in the renewable energy sector over the past two decades in China and expressed optimism about the investment landscape in Cambodia. He also noted plans to partner with the Cambodia-China Community Development Association and SL Sunlight Green Energy Sorlapower Co. Ltd. to establish a solar facility that will span nearly 600 hectares of land in Kampong Speu.

Construction of the solar power plant is slated to begin in mid-July 2025 and is expected to generate between 1,500 to 3,000 jobs for residents once operational. In response to the proposed project, Governor Dr. Cheam Chansophorn pledged the province’s full support and committed to facilitating the necessary legal and procedural processes to ensure a smooth establishment of the plant.

Kampong Speu Province is home to around 2,442 factories and enterprises, with over 90% of investments coming from Chinese entities. This trend highlights the strong bilateral relations between Cambodia and China and the increasing interest in Cambodia’s renewable energy sector.

This initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable development and economic growth in the region, aligning with Cambodia’s vision for a greener future. The investment not only reflects confidence in the country’s potential but also represents a crucial move towards meeting its energy needs sustainably.
