Chinese Mining Firms Eye Expansion in Cambodia’s Potent Resource Sector

In a promising development for Cambodia’s mining industry, Beijing Endi (Group) Co., Ltd., a prominent mining investment firm based in China, has set its sights on expanding operations in the kingdom. This ambition was underscored during a pivotal meeting on 15 January 2025, between HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee, and a delegation led by Mr. Tang Changzhong, President of the Chinese company.

Mr. Tang outlined Beijing Endi’s plans to deepen its investment in mining and establish a technical training institute to equip Cambodian workers with essential skills relevant to the industry. This initiative reflects a commitment to boosting local talent and ensuring that the benefits of resource extraction extend beyond financial gains.

In response, HE Chea Vuthy warmly welcomed the proposed expansion and acknowledged the importance of training local human resources. However, he urged Beijing Endi to engage in detailed discussions with the Ministry of Mines and Energy to ensure successful project implementation.

This news comes on the heels of a significant year for Cambodia’s investment landscape. In 2024 alone, the nation attracted a staggering 414 investment projects, nearly 50% of which came from Chinese sources. This influx has infused approximately USD 6.9 billion into the economy and created nearly 320,000 job opportunities, highlighting the critical role that foreign investment plays in the country’s growth trajectory.
