Digital Twins: Bentley-Based Solutions Drive Infrastructure Efficiency

Digital twins are revolutionizing infrastructure projects, enhancing efficiency, cutting risk, and optimizing asset performance across design, construction, and operations. Leveraging data from 3D models and IoT sensors, these digital replicas offer new levels of situational awareness for current conditions and future planning.

According to a report by Bentley, a leading digital software provider, the technology is already in widespread use, with over half of infrastructure professionals integrating it into their projects.

Digital Twin helps boost design accuracy. It allows teams to simulate constructability and resolve clashes early, saving time and cost. Besides, it also help with risk reduction. The technology unifies engineering data, scheduling, and logistics, enabling virtual rehearsals and resource optimization.

On the other hand, for existing assets, Twins centralise maintenance logs and sensor data to accelerate issue detection and facilitate predictive maintenance, ensuring safety and uptime.

Bentley’s tools are foundational to major successes, such as the I-95 Rappahannock River Crossing and the large-scale EchoWater Project, which was delivered $400 million under budget.

The future points toward AI-powered digital twins, which will integrate advanced analytics to enable complex scenario planning and redefine how infrastructure is managed.
