Exciting Development: Green Tourism Infrastructure Construction Begins at Khnang Phsa Mountain

In a significant milestone for the local tourism sector, the Ministry of Environment has officially commenced construction on vital infrastructure aimed at promoting green tourism in the picturesque Khnang Phsa mountain area. The ground-breaking ceremony, led by the Minister of Environment, HE Dr. Eang Sophallet, marks the beginning of an ambitious project that promises to transform the region into a top-tier eco-tourism destination.

At the heart of this initiative is the construction of a 7.2-kilometre red-paved access road, designed to connect Road No. 48.4 to the foothills of Khnang Phsa mountain. This new road will enhance accessibility for both tourists and local communities, making it easier for visitors to explore the area’s breathtaking natural beauty. Complementing this will be a scenic walking street spanning approximately 4 kilometres, which will link the foothills of the mountain to the Damnak Darn Preah, further improving visitor experiences.

To cater to the needs of hikers, the ministry has planned multiple rest areas along the hiking routes. These rest stops will feature shaded areas created with fruit and forest trees, providing a welcome respite for weary travellers. Hikers will also have access to purified water sourced from natural springs at each rest area, along with informative signage that details distance and energy expenditure for those journeying to Khnang Phsa Mountain.

In a bid to create a sustainable tourism hub, additional facilities will be established near Damnak Darn Preah. The plans include parking lots, cafes, information centres, solar power systems, clean drinking water facilities, camping sites, forest trails, first aid stations, canteens, and effective waste disposal systems.

Minister Eang Sophallet highlighted the project’s community-centered approach, noting that local residents will be granted management rights over these new facilities. This initiative aims to elevate local livelihoods and stimulate entrepreneurship, redirecting efforts from illegal logging and hunting towards sustainable tourism practices that prioritize environmental conservation.

In addition, the Ministry of Tourism is set to introduce special tour packages designed to attract an influx of visitors to Khnang Phsa Mountain, which is expected to bolster the local economy and enhance the quality of life for residents. (Read more)
