VinFast Invests US$200m in New Indonesian Plant, Aiming for 50,000 Cars Annually

Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast has committed US$200 million to establish a new manufacturing plant in Subang, West Java, Indonesia. The facility, which will have the capacity to produce up to 50,000 cars annually, will feature a general assembly line, paint shop, and special test area, creating thousands of local jobs. This information was reported by Global Construction Review on 17 July 2024.

VinFast, having already launched two SUV models in Indonesia, is also building a car distribution network to offer flexible pricing options and additional guidance on battery subscriptions.

H Moeldoko, Director of Human Resources for the Indonesian government, stated, “The government strongly encourages foreign investment to come to our country, especially in the automotive industry.”

He added, “We believe that the presence of VinFast will bring the technological innovations and knowledge transfer needed to increase the competitiveness of the national automotive industry.”

The Subang plant is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2025, marking a significant milestone in VinFast’s expansion strategy and Indonesia’s industrial growth.
