In 30 Years, Halo Trust Clears Over 500 Square Kilometres of Cambodian Minefields

Since 1991, Halo Trust has cleared 511 square kilometres of minefields in Cambodia, significantly contributing to the country’s demining efforts. This milestone was highlighted during a meeting between HE Senior Minister Ly Thuch and Mr Miles Hawthorn, Director of Halo Trust in Cambodia, on 25 July 2024.

During the meeting, HE Senior Minister Ly Thuch expressed his gratitude for Halo Trust’s long-standing support since 1991. The organisation has successfully removed 322,015 anti-personnel mines, 5,117 anti-tank mines, and 219 explosive remnants of war. Additionally, Halo Trust has discovered and destroyed 571 rounds and nearly 1.5 million small arms.

Over the past three decades, Cambodia has cleared more than 3,000 square kilometres of landmines. Despite these efforts, approximately 1,854 square kilometres of land contaminated with unexploded ordnance and landmines remain.
