Four Firms Submit Proposals to Redevelop Cambodia’s Block A Oil Project

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced that four companies have officially submitted proposals to redevelop Block A, Cambodia’s prominent oil exploration site. These proposals come as part of a broader effort to revitalize the country’s energy capacity following the suspension of operations due to KrisEnergy’s bankruptcy in 2021.

An additional five companies have expressed interest but have yet to submit formal applications, as reported during the ministry’s recent annual conference on 21 November 2024.

The four companies that have submitted development proposals are:

  • EnerCam Resources Co Ltd (Canada)
  • Cambodian Gather Energy Co Ltd (China)
  • Vietnam Investment Construction Services (Vietnam)
  • MPC Future Company Limited Co Ltd (Thailand)

The five companies that have not yet filed formal applications include:

  • Valeura Energy Inc. and Lee Li Holdings Inc. (Canada)
  • Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation Ltd (Vietnam)
  • BP (United Kingdom)
  • UACU (Thailand)

The ministry has emphasized its commitment to selecting an appropriate investor by 2025. Should no suitable company be identified, a resolution proposal will be submitted to the Royal Government for further review and decision.

Block A’s redevelopment is critical to Cambodia’s energy sector, following the challenges posed by the project’s suspension after KrisEnergy’s exit in 2021. (Read more)
