General Motors chose Cambodia to establish the Chevrolet Truck Assembly Plant

In a landmark move for Cambodia’s automotive sector, General Motors (GM) announced the establishment of a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck assembly plant in the country. This significant decision was unveiled during the vehicle’s launch ceremony on August 1, 2025.

His Excellency Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Investment Committee of Cambodia, expressed his pride in the partnership between GM and United Auto Trading. He commended GM for choosing Cambodia as its exclusive vehicle assembly location in the ASEAN region, highlighting the special rights afforded to the nation and the implications of this achievement.

During his speech, His Excellency outlined two strategic goals for United Auto Trading: to bolster the local value chain and establish Cambodia as a key hub for automotive products and component exports. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive investment climate and advocated for a reduction in the tariff rate to 19%. This proposed change aims to provide benefits to Cambodian citizens, investors, and the broader business community.

The collaboration between TH Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and General Motors resulted in the signing of an exclusive agreement for assembling Chevrolet vehicles in Cambodia. The new plant will require an investment of $19 million and is projected to produce between 10,000 and 12,000 vehicles annually. This initiative represents a significant economic opportunity for the nation and marks a vital step in enhancing Cambodia’s presence in the regional automotive marketplace.

As Cambodia gears up for growth in this sector, the partnership with GM is set to improve production capabilities and create local jobs, further contributing to economic development in the region.
