KHMER ELECTRICAL POWER Embarks on US$447.5 Million Hydropower Venture in Koh Kong

The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has given the green light to a colossal initiative. The ambitious project entails the construction of two substantial hydropower plants, with an investment surpassing US$447.5 million, poised to reshape Koh Kong province’s energy landscape.

Both hydropower endeavors fall under the stewardship of “KHMER ELECTRICAL POWER CO., LTD,” marking a significant stride towards enhancing Cambodia’s energy capacity. The first of the two plants, the Stung Russey Chrum Kandal project, is slated for construction in Mondul Seima district, boasting an impressive 70 MW capacity. Simultaneously, the Veal Thmor Kambot hydropower project, with a robust 100 MW capacity, is set to grace the landscape of Thmar Bang district, further solidifying Koh Kong province’s role in Cambodia’s energy matrix.

The noteworthy aspect of this strategic investment lies not only in its magnitude but also in its potential socioeconomic impact. The project, structured as a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) initiative, is anticipated to infuse vitality into the local economy by generating approximately 230 job opportunities.
