Government and Private Sector Unite for Energy Efficiency: Launch of PowerWise Program

In a significant move towards sustainability, the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with Sevea, officially launched the PowerWise program, aimed at reducing energy consumption in commercial buildings by 25% by the year 2030. This announcement was made by H.E. Khwai Atthia, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, during a press conference today.

The PowerWise program represents a pioneering initiative dedicated to enhancing energy efficiency within Cambodia’s commercial sector. “This program is crucial in helping us meet Cambodia’s ambitious sustainability targets set for 2050,” stated H.E. Khwai Atthia, emphasizing its alignment with the National Energy Efficiency Policy (NEEP). The initiative plays a vital role in facilitating the goals of reducing energy usage in commercial buildings across the nation.

The economic benefits of participating in the PowerWise program are significant, according to H.E. Atthia. “Not only will businesses enjoy substantial cost savings from increased energy efficiency, but they will also contribute to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, showcasing their commitment to environmental sustainability.”

The program is set to engage 30 commercial companies and non-governmental organizations throughout Cambodia, providing them with the necessary support to implement energy-saving measures. This proactive approach aligns with Cambodia’s overall commitment to achieving the energy reduction objectives laid out in the NEEP for the period of 2022-2030.

As Cambodia steps into a greener future, the PowerWise program not only reflects a shared vision for sustainability but also marks a crucial step toward ensuring a more energy-efficient landscape in commercial sectors across the country.
