Government, JICA Agree on Loan for SHV Port Expansion Phase 2 & 3

Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and JICA have agreed on the loan package for the second and third phases of the Sihanoukville port expansion projects.

The loan agreement from JICA to Sihanoukville Autonomous Port comes after JICA provided a US$203 million loan for the first phase of a container terminal expansion project, which is scheduled for completion in 2025.

Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol said during the visit to SHV port on 27 April that JICA has agreed to the loan disbursement of both phase 2 and 3 at the same time.

“This will help fasten the projects as we don’t have to renegotiate the loan for phase 3 again after phase 2 is completed,” he added.

The first phase is the expansion of the container terminal to 350m long and 14.5m deep. The second phase will be 350m long and 16.5m deep while the third one will be 400 m long and 17.5m deep. Both phases are set for completion in 2028 and 2029 respectively.
