How Bentley Turns Customer Pain Into Business Value

At the recent Bentley Tech Summit, Matt Sheridan, Senior Director of Solutions Engineering, outlined a strategic shift in how the company supports the global infrastructure sector.

Rather than simply selling individual tools, Bentley is moving toward a “process-driven” partnership model designed to solve systemic business challenges through the Bentley Infrastructure Cloud.

In a featured session of Bentley Talks, Sheridan explained that many engineering firms face “pains”—such as compliance hurdles and profitability pressures—that they may not fully realize affect multiple departments.

By utilizing platforms like ProjectWise and the Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, Bentley is helping organizations connect disparate workflows. This high-level integration allows data to flow seamlessly across teams, ensuring that a solution for one department provides value for the entire business.

Shifting the conversation from “what the product does” to “how the process achieves a business goal,” such as increasing project capacity or meeting KPIs.

Moving beyond single-product fixes to create connected digital ecosystems that reduce friction between engineering, management, and operations.

By solving deep-rooted operational issues, Bentley aims to transition from a software vendor to a strategic advisor that helps customers remain competitive in a high-pressure market.

Reflecting on the summit’s success, Sheridan noted that this year’s event pivoted from product-focused tracks to industry-driven collaboration. This approach emphasizes the human element of technology: building trust between Bentley’s experts and their clients.

“People like to buy with people and have relationships with people,” Sheridan stated. “If we can help them achieve their outcomes… we’re becoming more of a trusted partner… even an advisor on how to improve their own business.”

As the infrastructure industry faces increasing demand to deliver complex projects sustainably and profitably, Bentley’s focus on connected processes aims to provide the “digital intelligence” necessary for long-term growth.
