Indonesian President Inaugurates ASEAN’s Largest Digital Testing Centre Worth US$61m

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has officially opened the US$61 million Indonesia Digital Testing Centre (IDTH), the largest and most advanced digital and telecommunications testing facility in Southeast Asia. The inauguration took place on 7 May 2024, as reported by Antaranews.

President Jokowi emphasised the significance of IDTH as a pivotal institution showcasing Indonesia’s digital prowess on the international stage. With state-of-the-art technology, IDTH is set to become the forefront of digital innovation in Southeast Asia.

“The new Indonesia Digital Testing Centre, established to international standards, is fully equipped with cutting-edge technology, justifying the substantial investment in its construction,” remarked President Jokowi during the inauguration ceremony. “I recognise the indispensable role of testing equipment in ensuring the safety and quality of digital devices.”

Highlighting the importance of digitalisation, President Jokowi underscored its role in fostering local industries and economies, empowering domestic producers to excel on the global stage.

At the core of IDTH’s mission is to ensure safety, health, and quality standards for users of various digital devices, including laptops, smartphones, digital TVs, speakers, radios, and other essential gadgets. The centre’s comprehensive testing procedures aim to guarantee the reliability and performance of digital devices in everyday life and across industries.

As digitalisation gains momentum across Asia, the need for advanced testing facilities becomes paramount. The rise of technologies such as 5G, IoT, and AI necessitates well-equipped and standardised testing centres to meet evolving market demands.

The inauguration of IDTH aligns with broader regional trends in digital testing and underscores Indonesia’s commitment to technological advancement and innovation. By investing in cutting-edge infrastructure, Indonesia aims to position itself as a key player in driving economic growth and digital transformation in the region.
