Japan to Develop 50MW Biomass Power Plant in Kampong Speu

Erex Co., Ltd., a prominent Japanese investment firm, has announced plans to construct a 50MW biomass power plant in Kampong Speu province, with construction set to begin in June 2025. The ambitious project aims to bolster the region’s energy supply and provide more affordable electricity for Kampong Speu and neighboring areas.

This significant announcement came during a meeting between His Excellency Tuy Ri, the Cambodian Ambassador to Japan, and His Excellency IMAMURA Masahiro, the former President of the Cambodia-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Alliance and Advisor to the Prime Minister. The meeting focused on advancing bilateral cooperation in energy development.

“The 50MW biomass power plant will take approximately two years to complete, with the expectation of becoming operational by 2027,” Honna stated. “We aim to provide affordable energy solutions while exploring opportunities to expand biomass power plants in other provinces, utilizing agricultural waste such as rice husks, straw, and bark.”

Ambassador Tuy Ri strongly supported Erex’s initiatives and emphasized the importance of these projects for Cambodia’s sustainable energy future. He pledged to facilitate connections between Erex and experts from the Ministry of Mines and Energy in May, ensuring a smooth preparatory process for the company.
