Japanese firm to install more than 7,000 LED lampposts for Cambodia smart city initiative

Japanese electronics devices firm MinebeaMitsumi will install more than 7,000 LED lampposts in Cambodia as part of the smart city initiative.

The plan was announced during a meeting between Minister of Environment H.E Say Samal and Mr Yoshihisa Kainuma, director of MinebeaMitsumi during a report on the smart city work of the company.

Mr Yoshihisa Kainuma said that the company is currently producing high-tech products that provide great benefits to the environment and is preparing to install LED lampposts in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville which are all part of the smart cities network supported by Japan.

The government recently agreed in principle for the Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) to establish the ASEAN-Japan Smart Cities Network. (Read more)

According to Mr Yoshihisa Kainuma as reported on the Ministry of Environment Facebook page, around 7,359 LED lampposts will be installed this year to push forward the smart cities project for which 1,187 have already been installed along three boulevards in Phnom Penh. Around 500 LED lampposts will be installed in Siem Reap and the project will also extend to Sihanoukville.

H.E Say Samal welcomed progress on the work while citing that using lampposts that consume less electricity will not only save electricity, but also reduce pollution, save money, and contribute to environmental protection and creating a healthy living environment in the city.

In addition, H.E Say Samal also encouraged the organization of a seminar in order to allow MinebeaMitsumi to showcase its technology to borey and other construction owners.
