Kandal Province Expands Territory to 3,278 km² Following Land Transfers
Kandal Province has officially expanded its area to 3,278.48 square kilometers after recent adjustments in administrative borders with neighboring Phnom Penh and Takeo provinces. This significant change, formalized through several royal decrees, allows for better governance and resource management in the region.
According to Notification No. 1171 SJN, issued on July 9, 2025, the new territory reflects a land transfer from Phnom Penh. The adjustment includes an area of 226 hectares and 1,940 square meters from Chroy Ampil 1 village in the Kbal Koh Sangkat of Chbar Ampov Khan, now under the administration of Koh Prak village in the Phum Thom commune of Kien Svay district.
Simultaneously, the administrative border with Takeo province was revised through Royal Decree No. NS/RKT/0625/760 dated June 12, 2025. This decree has transferred an area of 2,475 hectares and 6,178 square meters from Prek Phtal and Kok Thlak communes in Angkor Borei district to the governance of Sampov Poun Sangkat in Kandal province, with the Angkor Borei River now serving as the boundary. Kandal Province, which encircles the capital city of Phnom Penh, shares its borders with Kampong Cham and Kampong Chhnang provinces to the north, Vietnam to the south, Prey Veng to the east, and Kampong Speu and Takeo to the west. Prior to these adjustments, Kandal’s area was recorded at only 3,251.46 square kilometers.
These changes are expected to enhance local administrative efficiency and improve public services for residents in the newly defined areas. The provincial administration aims to ensure a smooth transition as it integrates the newly acquired land and resources into its governance framework.
