Korea Commits US$10m to Transform 30 Villages in Northwestern Cambodia

The Government of Korea, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), has committed US$10 million to develop 30 villages in Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Pailin provinces over five years from 2022 to 2026. The project aimed at boosting agricultural incomes, enhancing governance capacity for rural development, and improving access to essential services, according to KOICA’s official Facebook page.

The “Peace Village Building Project through Diversified Rural Community Development (VDP)” will be implemented in partnership with Cambodia’s Ministry of Rural Development, with a strong focus on community participation.

KOICA will provide the necessary funding, training, and consulting for project implementation. Village development committees will be responsible for leading the construction and renovation of critical community infrastructure, including schools, health centres, roads, and reservoirs, all designed to cater to the specific needs of the 30 target villages.

This initiative is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for rural residents by ensuring better access to basic services and supporting sustainable economic growth in the region.
