Malaysia’s KSI Strategic Institute Proposes ASEAN Economic Club and Investment Events in Cambodia

Malaysia’s KSI Strategic Institute, led by the institute’s president Tan Sri Michel Yao, has unveiled plans to establish the ASEAN Economic Club and explore investment opportunities in Cambodia. This announcement follows a meeting between Samdech PM Hun Manet and Mr. Tan Sri Michel Yao on 8 April 2024.

During the discussion, Mr. Tan Sri Yao outlined the institute’s intention to assess potential investment expansion in Cambodia, particularly focusing on sectors such as agriculture, energy, biomass, financial technology, and digital innovation. Additionally, he proposed the establishment of the “World Digital Chamber” to further promote technological advancements.

Moreover, the institute aims to host two significant events in Cambodia; the 2024 Global Chinese Economic & Technology Summit (GCET) and the 2024 Asia Economic & Entrepreneurship Summit (AEES). These events are designed to attract investors from both ASEAN countries and around the globe, showcasing the investment prospects Cambodia offers.

In response to the proposals, PM Hun Manet instructed the KSI Strategic Institute to engage in further discussions with relevant ministries and institutions in Cambodia. Emphasising the importance of fostering investment in technology and digital sectors, PM Hun Manet  highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia to integrate the country’s economy into the digital realm, with initiatives led by institutions such as the National Bank of Cambodia and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
