Malaysian Companies Eye Investment in Cambodia’s Ports & Wastewater Treatment Sectors

Two prominent Malaysian firms, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (MCB) and GAEA PLC (Global Action for Environment Awareness Public Limited Company), have expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia’s ports and wastewater treatment sectors. The firms met with the Council for the Development of Cambodia to discuss potential collaborations that could enhance Cambodia’s infrastructure and environmental management.

During the meeting, HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, welcomed the Malaysian investors and outlined the country’s priority areas for investment. These areas include transportation infrastructure, agriculture and agro-industry, food processing, the automotive industry, electronics, digital technology, and the development of special economic zones.

Representatives from MCB and GAEA PLC acknowledged the Cambodian government’s commitment to attracting foreign investment and highlighted their specific focus on the port sector, along with wastewater treatment systems and solid waste management as key areas for future investment.

This meeting comes on the heels of a significant surge in investment activity in Cambodia. In the first four months of 2025, the Council for the Development of Cambodia has approved 231 investment projects, totalling approximately 3.4 billion baht. This represents an impressive increase of 103 projects—an 80% rise compared to the same period last year, with investment capital amounting to over 856 million baht, a 34% increase. (Read more)
