Ministry of Tourism to Transform Birthplace of Samdech Techo Hun Sen into Historical Site

The Ministry of Tourism is set to embark on an ambitious project to convert the birthplace of Samdech Techo Hun Sen into a historical site. This initiative aims to preserve the legacy of the former Prime Minister for future generations and has garnered strong support from Samdech Men Sam An, the King’s Personal Advisor.

During a visit to Peam Krao village in the Peam Koh Sna commune of Stung Trang district, Minister of Tourism HE Huot Hak unveiled plans for the transformation of the former residence into a significant historical landmark. “This project is not just about preserving a building; it is about honoring the legacy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and enriching the cultural heritage of Stung Trang province,” HE Huot Hak stated.

The initiative is envisioned as a resource for young people to engage in historical research while simultaneously promoting tourism and enhancing the overall image of Kampong Cham Province. Samdech Men Sam An expressed his wholehearted support for the initiative and encouraged Minister Huot Hak and HE Un Chanda to collaborate closely in studying the necessary procedures for the project’s successful implementation.

Adding historical context, HE Chreung Kim Sran, a former member of the 4th Senate and current advisor to Samdech Techo, recounted that in January 1988, recognising the deteriorating condition of the old house, Samdech Techo Hun Sen sought approval from HE Hun Neang to demolish it and replace it with a new wooden and tiled structure, which now stands at 6 metres by 14 metres. This new home has been cared for by Ms. Son Chou and her husband ever since.

As the Ministry of Tourism moves forward with this project, it is poised to not only protect a vital piece of history but also stimulate local tourism and community pride in the rich heritage of the region.
