Ministry of Land Launches Coastal Urban Design Competition to Attract Investment & Boost Tourism

The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) has launched an ambitious design competition project to revitalize Cambodia’s coastal regions to drive economic development, boost tourism, and attract foreign investment. The competition, themed “Cambodia, My Motherland, My City, My Coast, My Heart,” focuses on enhancing urban planning in key coastal provinces, including Kep, Kampot, Sihanoukville, and Koh Kong. This initiative is set to transform these regions into vibrant economic hubs, according to a decision of MLMUPC dated 19 September 2024.

A special task force comprising a chairman, vice-chairman, and 42 members has been established to oversee the competition. Their responsibilities include:

  1. Leading, managing, and organizing the competition and coordinating with relevant ministries, provincial administrative institutions, and other relevant units.
  2. Setting the technical content, evaluation, and scoring principles and seeking sponsorship for the competition.
  3. Determining the dissemination policy and seeking support for the competition project, as well as setting the policy for disseminating the competition on the action plan and budget for the implementation of the coastal urban planning project in Cambodia.

The initiative, a collaboration between MLMUPC and the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development (CCHR), aims to align the competition with Cambodia’s strategic vision for urban development, with a focus on coastal business, tourism, and investment.
