Mondulkiri Province Ground Breaks on Construction of Independence Monument

To promote tourism in the province, Mondulkiri Municipality broke ground on 9 August ground on construction of an Independence Monument located in Sen Monorom Park (on the land of the former airport) in Sen Monorom City.

The ceremony was presided over by Mondulkiri Provincial Governor H.E Svay Sam Eang, with Mr. Khai Peng Son from the traditional construction team, and other respective government officials and citizen in attendance.

Speaking during the ceremony, H.E Svay Sam Eang said that the government will spend around US$500,000 on the construction of the Independence Monument covering around 20 hectares of land. This Independence Monument will have a better standard compared to those in other province in Cambodia, he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the design structure of the monument, Mr. Khai Peng Son said that the Independence Monument will have a circumference of 58 metres and be 24 metres high.

In order to enhance the beauty of the monument, the provincial administration will plant various types of tree that showcase Mondulkiri’s natural resources as well as the indigenous culture and ethnic identity of the province. In addition, the monument will feature sculptures and other entertainment venues.
