NR 33 Rehabilitation Project Exceeds Expectations, Progress at 55% Faster Rate

The rehabilitation and enhancement project of NR 33 has surpassed expectations, achieving over 55% completion as of 15 March 2024, which is 17% faster than initially planned.

This notable progress was confirmed during a meeting chaired by HE Pal Chandara, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Project Director. Also present were the Undersecretary of State, the General Manager of the Technical Working Group of China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC), and representatives from relevant departments under the Ministry.

The purpose of the meeting was to ensure that construction adheres to technical standards, quality requirements, and durability parameters.

During the meeting, the HE Secretary of State emphasised the importance of executing the work with precision and technical expertise to prevent errors and rework. Additionally, he instructed construction companies to prioritize safety measures, including the installation of traffic signs, nighttime traffic lights, and dust suppression measures to minimise disruptions to the public.

The NR 33 rehabilitation project spans approximately 52.57 kilometres, connecting Kampot province to the Cambodia-Vietnam border at Lok crossing. The road traverses the Teuk Chhou and Kampong Trach districts of Kampot province, as well as the Kep city and Damnak Chang Eur districts of Kep province. The project is being implemented through a concessional loan from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, supplemented by the budget of the Cambodian government to address impacts and taxes.
