Nearly 19 Hectares of Landfill Inaugurated in Kampong Cham City

A state-of-the-art landfill spanning 18.67 hectares in Koh Roka village, Koh Roka commune, Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham province, was officially inaugurated on 24 December 2024.

This modern garbage disposal site, constructed as part of the Greater Mekong Subregion Corridor Development Project, Phase 4, was funded by a concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and built by BM Construction & Electric Co., Ltd. The project was completed in 11 months, addressing the region’s growing waste management needs.

The landfill’s first operational phase is set to manage local waste for the next seven years, from 2024 to 2031. The facility is expected to benefit approximately 908,000 people, covering 85% of the local population across communities in Boeung Kak, Kampong Cham, Sambour Meas, Veal Vong, Ampil, and Khveal communes within Kampong Siem district.

Designed to enhance environmental safety and quality of life, the landfill represents a critical advancement in solid waste management infrastructure. This development integrates sustainable practices to promote cleaner living conditions for residents while meeting the growing demands of urbanization in Kampong Cham Province.

The Kampong Cham City Landfill Development Project is a model of progress for the Mekong region, reflecting the Cambodian government’s commitment to sustainability and modern waste management solutions. With its strategic planning and significant community impact, this initiative sets a precedent for future development projects to improve regional environmental conditions.
