New Khmer-Thai border Point to be Equipped with Modern Cargo Scanning Tech

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) plans to equip the new Khmer-Thai Stung Bot- Ban Nong Ian border checkpoint with modern X-Ray scanning machines to check all cargo goods crossing the border to accelerate goods clearance procedures.

The initiative was announced in the project construction follow-up meeting held on 8 November between relevant Cambodian and Thai officials, as well as the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA).

Speaking at the meeting, the MPWT’s Secretary of State HE Yith Bunna also urged the relevant parties of the two countries to work closely to ensure the installation of the X-Ray machines goes smoothly.

He hoped that the machines will make the goods clearance procedure easier, faster, and less complicated.

Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to temporarily open the new Stung Bot- Ban Nong Ian border checkpoint soon, connecting Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province to Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province. (Read more)

As of June this year, the construction of this US$24 million Stueng Bat-Ban Nong Ian international border checkpoint for the Cambodian side was over 21.05% complete.
