Speaking to Construction & Property Magazine on 03 September, H.E Vasim Sorya spokesman of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), said that study of the project had been completed, but the ministry had not yet received any documents detailing the project.

“We know that the project [JICA] finished, but it’s just, the cost, when it starts, we don’t know yet unless we have the document in hands. I contacted the one in charge of the project and he has not yet received JICA’s final report,” he said.

According to H.E Vasim, usually, after the study is completed, there will be a meeting conducted to review the project before implementation.

He noted that detailed information about the project available on the internet is not the same as the one he previously knew.

“There a page that has published that information, but when we checked, it is different from the original concept paper. In the original concept paper, it wasn’t US$900 [million] or US$800 [million], it was over US$1,000 [million] and only 19 kilometres long, but now, some said 24, some said 16,” he said.

Recently, Chinese companies have asked to study the construction of monorail and metro trains in Phnom Penh. (Read more)

“I used to hear our leader say that JICA had completed the study of the AGT project but at the same time Chinese firms were also studying a monorail and metro, and together with JICA they also have master plan for Phnom Penh,” he said.
