PM Hun Sen Urges Private Firms to Conduct COVID-19 Rapid Self-Testing to Save National Budget

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen has urged all private firms, especially construction companies and factories, to conduct COVID-19 rapid test on their employees by themselves, to reduce national spending, ease doctors’ workloads, and more importantly, preemptively preventing large-scale spread.

PM Hun Sen said on 1 July that if stricter measures are not taken against the new Delta variant, Cambodia would have another larger-scale outbreak. Thus, we need cooperation from the private sector.

“There is no harm for private companies to conduct their own test on employees with the company’s capital, as the device costs only US$3.7. This will help ease our doctors’ workload and also help prevent risk on time,” said PM Hun Sen.

After this announcement, doctors will also start teaching enterprises and private companies how to conduct the test properly.

Regarding this new measure, Head of Contract Administration of Ly Chhuong Construction Company Mr Meas Proeksa expressed his full support.

“Allowing quick tests makes it easier for companies to manage workers on construction sites, especially those sites with a large number of workers residing on site. Rapid testing will not only help prevent risk for the company and the public but will also reduce risk of locking down construction sites that is a severe loss,” said Mr Proeksa.

Besides allowing the private sector to conduct rapid tests, PM Hun Sen also ordered the military to do the same.
