Second phase of Bakeng water treatment plant to supply 390,000m3 per day by 2023

The second phase of the Bakheng water treatment project, with a capacity of 390,000m3 per day, will be put into service by 2023 in response to the increasing demand for clean water every year, especially during the dry season.

Currently, four water treatment plants are supplying services in Phnom Penh, producing 600, 000m3 per day. This figure shows the clean water supply deficiency compared to the demand for clean water estimated to be 700,000m3 per day, according to the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority’s announcement during last year’s dry season on 12 March 2020.

In addition to the four current existing plants, the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority is building a new second phase water treatment plant. According to a press release from the investor VINCI Construction Grands Projects dated 19 November 2019, the huge project will cost US$45 million and will supply 1 million users – nearly half of Phnom Penh’s population.

Meanwhile, the first phase of Bakeng water treatment plant, with a capacity of 195,000 m3 per day, is scheduled to be completed by 2023.(Read more)
