South Korea to help build another US$16-million hospital building in Cambodia

The South Korean government, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), plans to build a new five-storey treatment building worth US$16 million in the National Pediatric Hospital to provide better medical service to Cambodian children.

Director of the National Pediatric Hospital Dr Nheb Angkeabos unveiled this new South Korea-funded project during the official visit to the hospital by KOICA Vice President Im Jeong on 29 March.

Dr Angkeabos said the new hospital building will have a total of 169 beds with a net area of 8,300sqm and will be used as an outpatient specialized disease consultation section and pediatricians training centre.

With standardized canteens and playgrounds, the new building will offer medical services for children such as ear, nose, throat, eye, kidney, glandular, dialysis, pediatrics, leukemia, gastroenterology, gastroscopy, and autism.

This project could start around 2023 with a three-year construction period.

The project will be the second building to be built by the South Korean government for the hospital, while the first Korea-funded building has been completed and put into operation in 2018
