Gov’t Announces New Opening Date for Techo International Airport

In a significant new update for travellers and the aviation industry, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation has announced a revised opening date for the much-anticipated Techo International Airport in Takhmao. Originally set to open on 10 July 2025, the grand opening is now scheduled for 9 September 2025, as indicated in a notice issued on 23 May 2025.

The official inauguration ceremony for the Techo International Airport, which boasts a Class 4F designation, will take place on 20 October 2025. The ceremony will be presided over by Prime Minister Samdech Maha Bovorathi Hun Manet, marking a milestone in Cambodia’s aviation development.

As of mid-May, the Techo International Airport project has made impressive progress, with more than 96% of construction completed and an investment of approximately USD 1.6 billion. This ambitious project was ground-breaking on 16 June 2020, covering an expansive area of 2,600 hectares that spans the Kandal Stung district in Kandal province and the Bati district in Takeo province. In an encouraging development, the U.S. government has recently expressed plans to assess the feasibility of providing financial support for the project in Takhmao city, further underlining the significance of the new airport on both a national and international scale. (Read more)

It is important to note that upon the opening of Techo International Airport, the existing Por Chen Tong Airport will be permanently closed. Prime Minister Hun Sen has affirmed that the site will remain under state ownership for the benefit of the public. (Read more)
