Private Sector Prioritises Three Key Measures to Boost Cambodia’s Automotive & Electronics Industry

Cambodia’s private sector has identified three pivotal measures from a list of 20 priorities to drive the development of the nation’s automotive and electronics industry.

This decision emerged from the second meeting of the Advisory Council for the Development of the Automotive and Electronics Sector, organized by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) on 10 October 2024, with over 100 government officials, private sector representatives, and stakeholders in attendance.

The meeting aimed to review the roadmap for the automotive and electronics sectors, discuss prevailing challenges, solidify the private sector’s role in shaping the industry’s growth, and orient the direction of further work. Through a survey conducted during the meeting, three key measures were selected for prioritization:

  1. Workforce Skills Improvement Program in collaboration with private enterprises,
  2. Simplification of export-import procedures and
  3. Review of electricity tariff targets to ensure supply stability.

Additionally, there was a significant interest from the private sector in working with the Royal Government to attract skilled foreign workers, migrants, and expatriates to strengthen the industry’s talent pool.

Moving forward, the Advisory Council for the Development of the Automotive and Electronics Sector is set to convene for its third meeting in six months.
