Transport Minister breaks ground on two more road construction projects in Sihanoukville

The Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sun Chanthol officially broke ground on two more provincial road renovation projects in Sihanoukville, following the damage caused by severe continuous flooding in the past month in the province.

The two provincial roads include road no.146 B and road no. 148, which will be upgraded to DBST and steel concrete pavement.

Road no. 146 B has a total length of 24.50km starting from National Road 4 at Km178 + 165 point in Prey Nop district to Stung Hav roundabout.

The renovation is divided into 10 sections with a length of approximately 3,580 metres each. Each section will be expanded to 7 metres wide and paved with DBST.

Meanwhile, the section road no. 148 has a total length of 23km starting from National Road 4, at Kilometre 225 + 500 point in front of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port to Stung Hav District. This section will be repaired with 23-centimetre-thick concrete.

Both projects are being undertaken using the national budget of about US$1 million.

According to H.E. Sun Chanthol, these two projects are just temporary repairs based on spot-by-spot damages. However, the government is currently studying the feasibility of expanding and improving the quality of these roads from DBST to Asphalt Concrete (AC) in the near future.

The minister also emphasised that the two roads play an important role in easing the transportation in the province.

“These two roads will make the locals’ commute faster, cheaper, and easier. More importantly, they will help reduce traffic congestion along National Road 4,” said H.E. Sun Chantol.

Meanwhile, the minister also informed the public about other achievements regarding infrastructure development including the expansion of National Roads No 3, 31, 33, 41, 10, and others.

According to the H.E Sun Chantol, construction work on NR10 connecting the Cambodia-Thai border to Sihanoukville is set to start very soon. (Read More)
