US Congress Strengthens Commitment to Enhancing Trade and Investment with Cambodia

In a significant development for international relations, the US Congress has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing trade and investment cooperation with Cambodia. This commitment was highlighted during a recent meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne from Texas on August 28, 2025.

During the meeting, Van Duyne praised Cambodia’s impressive economic resilience, macroeconomic stability, and consistent low inflation rates achieved over the past few decades. She commended the Cambodian government for implementing key policies that effectively attract foreign investment.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the advancement of US-Cambodia relations, particularly in trade and investment, Van Duyne pledged her support for initiatives aimed at further strengthening these ties.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude towards the US Congress and the US government for their decision to lower the import tariff rate on Cambodian goods to 19%, effective August 1, 2025. He emphasized Cambodia’s initiatives, including improved investment registration procedures, the establishment of a government-private sector forum to address challenges, and the introduction of attractive incentive measures for foreign investors.

This commitment to enhance trade cooperation was also echoed by Ms. Bridgette L. Walker, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Cambodia, during the 75th anniversary celebration of Cambodia-US diplomatic relations on July 3, 2025. (Read more)

Notably, in the first five months of 2025, trade between Cambodia and its partners exceeded USD 25 billion, marking an 18.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Notably, trade volume with the United States reached an impressive USD 4.4 million, reflecting an increase of 27%. (Read more)
