Unveiling the Majestic Path: USAID Envisions a 20.23km Trail up Tbeng Mountain

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has joined hands with three communities in Preah Vihear province to explore an ambitious project that aims to construct a breathtaking 20.23-kilometre trail up the majestic Tbeng Mountain. This trail will serve as a vital connection between the Chak Angre, Tang You, and Datavik protected areas, promoting ecological conservation and offering visitors an unparalleled experience in the heart of nature.

According to an official from the USAID Prey Lang Baitong project, the proposed trail will commence at the Tbeng climbing point near the Chak Angre community, featuring newly constructed wooden stairs. As hikers ascend the mountain, they will be guided along the natural contours of the landscape, unveiling mesmerizing valleys, enchanting streams, cascading waterfalls, ancient trees, and diverse wildlife. The trail will also showcase breathtaking vistas of sunrise and sunset, serene pagodas, and serene shrines, providing an immersive journey through the wonders of Tbeng Mountain.

At the heart of the trail lies the Tangyu community, where a well-appointed campground awaits visitors, perched on the mountain’s cliffs. This unique accommodation option, managed by the community, allows tourists to spend the night and savor the tranquility of the surroundings. Additionally, the trail culminates in the Datavik community, where a separate wooden staircase provides a descent from Phnom Tbeng. For adventure enthusiasts, the trail is also suitable for exhilarating mountain biking, with bicycles available for rent at the mountain’s summit.

Once the environmental assessment is completed, the communities will collaborate to submit a proposal to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to secure financial support for the construction of this extraordinary pathway. The envisioned trail up Tbeng Mountain is poised to become a testament to sustainable tourism, highlighting the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
