Vietnam Sets Sights on Clean Energy & Agro-Industrial Investment in Cambodia

In a recent meeting on 3 April 2025, representatives from the Vietnam Rubber Industry Association expressed their ambition to enhance clean energy investments and explore the establishment of an agro-industrial zone in Cambodia. The discussions took place between HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary-General of the Committee for Investment of Cambodia, and Mr. Truong Minh Trung, First Deputy Director General of Vietnam Rubber Group and Chairman of the 100,000-hectare Rubber Development Committee in Cambodia.

During the meeting, Secretary-General Chea Vuthy encouraged the Vietnam Rubber Industry Association to invest in an agro-industrial zone that would serve as a hub for companies involved in the processing of rubber, rubber trees, and other agricultural products. This initiative aims to support the local industry, which is grappling with a rapidly growing demand for these materials.

Responding positively, Mr. Truong Minh Trung acknowledged the proposal and expressed a strong interest in further expanding his investments in Cambodia’s clean energy sector. He also requested support from the Council for the Development of Cambodia to facilitate these initiatives.

In a show of commitment, Secretary-General Chea Vuthy assured Mr. Trung of the Cambodian government’s ongoing support for the expansion of Vietnamese investments, particularly in clean energy. He highlighted the importance of nurturing bilateral investment relations and reiterated the hope of attracting more Vietnamese investments to Cambodia.

This collaboration comes as Cambodia and Vietnam aim to boost their bilateral trade to an ambitious USD 20 billion in the future. In 2024, trade between the two nations already reached USD 4.6 billion, solidifying Vietnam’s position as Cambodia’s top trading partner. (Read more)
