SunRice Group Eyes Cambodia for Organic Rice Processing Plant, Opening New Avenues for Export

Australia’s SunRice Group is contemplating a strategic investment in Cambodia, aiming to establish a dedicated rice processing plant with a focus on organic rice for international exports. The ambitious plan was unveiled during a pivotal meeting between Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister, and Paul Serra, CEO of SunRice Group, on the occasion of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne on 4 March 2024.

Mr. Paul Serra, in outlining the company’s vision, highlighted SunRice Group’s distinction as the first Australian entity to import rice from Cambodia to Australia and New Zealand. Emphasising Cambodia’s agricultural potential and global recognition for the quality of its rice, he underscored the country’s competitiveness—underscored by a youthful workforce, stable electricity prices, and robust infrastructure, transportation, communication networks, and logistics.

Recognising these favourable conditions, Paul Serra conveyed the company’s keen interest in establishing a rice processing plant, specifically geared towards organic rice varieties, to cater to international markets.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed wholehearted support for SunRice Group’s venture, endorsing the expansion of their investment footprint in Cambodia within the rice processing sector. He extended an invitation for the company to explore further investment opportunities in Cambodia, leveraging the support and collaboration of relevant ministries and institutions.
