Sweden’s Largest Factory Unveiled in Phnom Penh: A New Era for Cambodia’s Economy

In a landmark event on 17 January 2025, Sweden’s prestigious glove manufacturer, HESTRA (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., officially opened the doors to its state-of-the-art factory located in the Royal Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone. The inauguration ceremony was graced by notable figures, including HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary-General of the Investment Committee of Cambodia, and Ms. Anna Hammargren, Ambassador of Sweden to Thailand.

During the ceremony, HE Chea Vuthy congratulated HESTRA for choosing Cambodia as its latest investment destination. Acknowledging the company’s impressive footprint in countries like China, Hungary, and Vietnam, he emphasised that HESTRA’s establishment in Cambodia marks a significant step towards enhancing the nation’s socio-economic landscape and creating valuable job opportunities for local communities.

Founded in 1936, HESTRA has risen to become the world’s leading glove manufacturer, and with this move, it has made history as the first Swedish venture in Cambodia’s glove industry. The Royal Government of Cambodia views HESTRA’s investment as a beacon of potential, signalling to other Swedish enterprises that the Cambodian market is ripe for investment.

The factory, which specialises in sports equipment crafted from leather and fabric, has an estimated investment of around USD 600,000 and is expected to generate approximately 200 jobs, significantly impacting the local workforce and economy. (Read more)
