Takeo Provincial High School Breaks Ground on Cutting-edge Technology Centre Construction

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Community Technology Centres (CTCs) at public high schools in Takeo province took place on 10 November 2023. HE Excellency Chea Vandeth, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), presided over the ceremony, marking a pivotal step in bolstering digital education and literacy.

The primary objective of the Community Technology Centre (CTC) initiative is to elevate the development of digital human capital, foster digital literacy, and bridge the digital gap through collaborative efforts between the state and local communities. The CTCs aim to serve as hubs for digital education not only within the schools but also throughout the broader community.

Minister Chea Vandeth, addressing the gathering, emphasised the significance of Takeo province as the inaugural location for the construction of a Community Technology Centre (CTC). The multifaceted functions of the CTCs include:

  1. Digital Skills Hub: Furnishing a state-of-the-art computer lab designed for digital technology skills training, the CTC acts as a dynamic space for delivering distance education to public high school students. Additionally, it serves as a versatile meeting room and training centre for educators involved in distance learning systems.
  2. Training Room Excellence: Establishing a dedicated training room, the CTC provides a platform for imparting digital technology skills to local authorities and community members keen on utilizing technology for various purposes.
  3. Convenient Post Office Services: Integrating essential services, the CTC houses a post office that facilitates the sending and receiving of packages. This amenity extends its offerings to cater to the needs of merchants, traders, and the wider community.
  4. Accessible Internet Café: Enabling community members to access vital information pertinent to agriculture, business, and other community-specific needs, the CTC establishes an Internet Café, fostering connectivity and digital engagement.

Expressing strong optimism, Minister Chea Vandeth envisioned the CTCs as crucial achievements aligned with the Cambodian Digital Economic and Social Policy Framework and the Cambodian Digital Government Policy. The project, funded by a grant of US$145,692 from the Government of Japan, focuses on the construction of a community technology centre in Bati district, Takeo province. (Read more)
