Cambodian Government Extends Tourism-Related Business Tax Exemption for Three Provinces

The gov’t announced on 15 July 2022 the extension of three months of tax exemption for tourism-related businesses only in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. The tax exemption initiative has three major measures:

  1. Continue to exempt all types of monthly taxes, except for value-added tax on hotels, guesthouses and travel agencies registered with the General Department of Taxation, with business activities in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville for an additional period of 3 months from July to September 2022.
  2. Continue to freeze debt figures by the end of 2019 with an exception for the tourism sector in 2022.
  3. Promote businesses in the tourism sector by developing upskilling programs for their own staff and be able to request financial support from the Skills Development Fund (SDF) project as needed.

This exemption was implemented to restore Cambodia’s economic growth in the near and medium term and strengthen resilience for sustainable and environmental socio-economic development under the strategic framework for living with COVID-19 in the new normal for 2021-2023.
